Leeds closer to £1.2bn investment

A regeneration initiative in Yorkshire worth £1.2 billion is on the verge of becoming a reality.
Leeds city council has announced that it is to seek its board's approval for the plans to go ahead, while developers Bellway will do the same.
The initiative will involve the regeneration of large sections of the east and south-east Leeds area, which is made up of the wards of Gipton and Harehills, Burmantofts and Richmond Hill, Killingbeck and Seacroft as well as Temple Newsham.
Les Carter, Leeds city council's executive member for neighbourhoods and housing, stated: "This agreement means that we can start detailed planning with local people to help decide where new homes should be built and to what investment is needed in the communities."
He added that the council intends to invest in training to help local people get employed.
People in the Kirkstall area of the Yorkshire city were recently invited by the council to share their opinions on future developments at a community event.
