Miniature hydrogen car comes to Leeds
viernes, 14 noviembre 2008
The first hydrogen car in Leeds has been launched but in miniature form.
It is a model car that is powered by water and sunlight and it was the first prize of a competition organised by Leeds city council's Fuelsavers team designed to improve the area's energy efficiency.
The car runs entirely on clean fuel supplied by a small solar-powered hydrogen refuelling station, which uses energy from the sun to change water into hydrogen.
"In future I'm sure many people would like a real one, but we might have to wait a few years to see one in and around Leeds, though we live in hope," said Barry Anderson, Leeds city council's lead member for energy and host of the ceremony.
Andy Million took home the hydrogen car on the night.
Earlier this month, Leeds city council published a prospectus showing the future of the city centre and it looks to emphasise its sustainable aspect.
