The University of Sheffield has launched an eco-friendly production centre in partnership with Qatar University and the Qatar Science and Technology Park.
It is designed to produce environmentally-friendly materials for local industries and will see researchers from the two countries join forces to look into life-cycle analysis of recycled polymer products.
"This is a fantastic initiative as it not only aims to have a positive impact on the environment but it will also involve a number of exchanges and visits between the two universities," said Dr Alma Hodzic, senior lecturer at the University of Sheffield's Department of Mechanical Engineering.
She added that the main aim of the project is to optimise plastic products to withstand high temperatures which are prevalent in the emirate.
A separate study from the University of Sheffield recently found that brain changes associated with Alzheimer's are not necessarily caused by dementia in elderly people.
