York is set to host the UK's largest education conference next year, which aims to attract up to 400 children's services professionals.
To be held in January, the NEEC 2010 event - formerly the North of England Education Conference - will bring with it around £400,000 of investment to the city's economy.
It has been announced that Ed Balls, secretary of state for children, schools and families, will be the key note speaker at the event.
Pete Dwyer, director of learning, culture and children's services at City of York Council, said: "We are delighted that the secretary of state is attending this prestigious event and are excited about the line-up of speakers we have now attracted to the city.
"We are even more confident that the event will add to York's reputation both as a city and as a place at the forefront of thinking on education and children's services issues."
Visit York, supported by Welcome to Yorkshire, has collaborated with the City of York Council to help put York at the forefront of the conference business trade.
