Yorkshire to get greener with Drax

A Yorkshire power company is to build three biomass-fired power generation plants in the UK, it has emerged.
Drax has secured the rights to build two of the biomass plants in Hull and Immingham, with the firm looking into where to place the third.
The business estimates that once the three sites have been erected and are operational, Drax will be responsible for supplying up to 15 per cent of the UK's renewable power and ten per cent of the country's total electricity.
Dorothy Thompson, chief executive at Drax, stated: "We believe our venture into dedicated biomass-fired generation underpins our commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of electricity generation from the continued but necessary reliance on fossil fuels."
She added that the firm is convinced that investment in the generation sector will supply "attractive returns".
In recent news, Drax hosted a charity corporate golf tournament earlier this month that raised £3,000 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance organisation.
